Systemic
We're all interested in exoplanets, and I'm sure we've all heard of Systemic. I am curious, how many people here use it at all? I'm pondering some things in my 0.85 * 4 = 8.6 head about this forum taking a more active role in exoplanets, and would encourage systemic-related discussions.

Re: Systemic
I agree. I would also like to discuss more about systemic for tentative detection of exoplanets in Solar neighborhood. There at Systemic Forum I've already posted something about and received positive feedback (especially about Proxima Centauri and Procyon's RV sets).
Because I've made vels files with radial velocities and relative error for nearby stars taken from Walker et al. 1995 (Tau Ceti, Sigma Draconis, 36 Ophiuchi, 61 Cygni, Iota Persei etc.) and from Endl et al. 2002 (ESO program stars alike Beta Hydri, Epsilon Indi, Phi2 Pavonis etc.).
Performing Systemic search for exoplanets I've noticed this:
- As for Walker et al. 1995 all minimum masses given by McDonald Observatory team in 2006 are in full agreement with observed data. For example planets less or as massive as 0.13 Jupiter masses may orbit Tau Ceti within 0.05-0.1 AUs (a tentative 0.14 Mj in 33 days orbit would have been already detected from systemic users, with chi-square test=1...), as well as nearly Jupiter-sized planets are thought to orbit 61 Cygni A within 3-5.2 AUs.
- Most of the stars seems not to show really significant periodicities which could explain the lack of detection so far
.
Nevertheless few stars do show some strong signals, as in Eta Cephei's case (163 days and 10 years periods are displayed).
However, yes, I would agree to discuss more about Systemic in this forum too.

Used it more frequently when they were updating the datasets on the backend.

As Edasich has been doing, we can scour papers for data and create our own datasets. I remember doing that for TW Hya back when it came out, and trying it for HD 28185 recently.
Do you think that systemic-related discussions have a place on this forum?

Re: Systemic
Well, I think we may post threads about Systemics in "Worlds" section, because using Systemic datafiles we're just doing "World building", aren't we? Because probably we would like also to add some kind of rendering with Celestia perhaps. I would do that.

Re: Systemic
I've heard of it but I don't go there to often. A habit I shall be changing upon further investigation.

Re: Systemic
Yeah, it's pretty neat. I never really toyed with it much until recently. Uploaded my first fit a few days ago.

Re: Systemic
It is nice trying to search what Exoplanet experts may not have found.

Re: Systemic
Or may not have reported yet. Remember the data from HARPS showed three planets at HD 40307, for three years, and they let it sit and accumulate data for the whole time.Edasich wrote:It is nice trying to search what Exoplanet experts may not have found.
But yeah, it is certainly entertaining.

Re: Systemic
Anyway I think we could shift this discussion to Worlds subforum, because tentative detections of exoplanets around non-planet-host stars would fit better there.
Moreover there I would like to provide some radial velocity sets I have typed from figures (yes, from those papers that don't display RV sets in column but only in picture).
For example I have got (excluding Walker et al. 1995 data available at SIMBAD) Zeta Tucanae, HR 5568, Zet1&2 Reticuli, Nu Phoenicis and other RV sets.
I'm also developing a Beta Pictoris composite RV set from HARPS paper too....
Surely many other users here would have more stuff, so let's share each other our "research" and possible results.

Now I don't know wheter we can submit our results here or open a new thread about Systemic simulations.
