Authentication?

Is anyone getting a popup asking for authentication? Standard-looking dialogue box asking for your username and password?

Are you referring to a pop-up when you try to go to the original site? Yes, I have gotten that pop-up only yesterday, and now I am not able to go to the site at all. Is "EVI" being discontinued?

Oh I didn't notice extrasolar.net was down -- was it hacked?

The pop-ups I was getting were on EVII. I am no longer receiving them though, and am glad to see no one else was.

Also, I wasn't aware EVI was down either.

I trust you have antispyware software on your computer and run it regularly.

Oh yes. It forces me into a virus scan every couple of days, really slows my computer down and limits me when it happens, but the security is worth it. When I saw the authentication pop-up, and that it asked for a username and password, I pretty much figured it was something malicious.

EV1 seems to be back up though rather flaky... I guess it was a hack attack after all.

I knew that would happen eventually.

I say this because somethings not right. A few images are missing, the virtual directory is not allowing people in ((Oddly enough closing a few http backdoors as well)) and everything else but the forum and the front page seems to work fine.

It sounds like a server issue but......I dunno I find it strange that it went down one day and was up the next when it's been pretty well abandoned by everyone.....not to mention that john m dollan has been MIA for quite some time and besides the people that host the site he's the only other one that would have been able to put something like that to a stop. I'm unsure if the mods could have...I don't know what they can and cannot do on that site.

Yup. Popup EVERY TIME I click on something. Standard user/pass box, so I'm thinking the server at EV is borken.

Yes, I, too, am getting it again. Just cancel it and move on until it gets fixed.

Are you talking about it happening on this forum? I've never seen it, but then I run NoScript so don't get all the fun of JavaScript on these pages. Might be something script-related?

If anyone is able to get back into EVI, can you get the controversial list of planets? That is the ones on the regular list but clicking on show controversial.

Another question, why is the pass dialog on EVII is asking for pass for EVI? Is there shared code or the same hacker?
