So long HD 16760 b

Post by Edasich on 28th September 2011, 9:09 am

HD 16760 b is a low-mass star in nearly face-on orbit (i=2.6). Goodbye to another planet

Btw one suffers less for very massive exoplanet candidates Rolling Eyes

Should be removed long time ago-I do not regret.I think all brown dwarf over 10 jupiter mass should as well -who cares of them?

But a direct image shows that the orbit is viewed almost face-on, leading to a mass 280 MJup (Evans et al. 2011).
So they've directly imaged it? Very nice, given the rather small separation.

Here's the relevant paper, which failed to get my attention while skimming through arXiv's new postings last night. http://arxiv.org/abs/1109.5900

tommi59: I take it you feel that Upsilon Andromedae c and d should be kicked out of the list of planets as well? Both are after all above 10 Jupiter masses... on the other hand this would lead to a fairly ridiculous description of the Upsilon Andromedae system.

As for HD 16760... pity, I quite liked this one. A superjovian on a near-circular orbit close to the outer edge of the HZ could have had an interesting moon system.

I little exagerrated with this ,but heavy brown dwarf with highly eccentric orbit or 280 jupiter mass is not really interesting often disrupting whole system. Contrary to the ups Andromedae planets c,d,e they could have nice size moons or other low mass bd with circular orbit
