Planet orbiting LHS 6343 C?

Post by Sirius_Alpha on 19th September 2011, 8:32 pm

If I understand this right, LHC 6343 has a eclipsing binary M+M system, and a transiting brown dwarf companion further out. Timing variations of LHC 6343C appear to suggest a sub-Jovian-mass perturber.

Transit Timing Measurements Using a New Technique "Barycenter Method": Application to LHS 6343 System
http://arxiv.org/abs/1109.3722

We used Barycenter method to calculate the times of mid-transits of the M+M binary star LHS 6343. Our results indicated that as suggested by Johnson et al (2011), the primary of this system is host to a smaller object with a period of ∼ 12.7 days. A study of the variations in the transit timing of this body (LHS 6343 C) points to the possibility that observed TTVs might have been created by the perturbation of a second body with a mass not larger then 1 MJ orbiting the central star. Whether such as an object actually exists requires more transit data and more observations of this system.

I was read the paper and if I understand correct LHS 6343 A orbit LHS 6343 B at ~20 AU and the brown dwarf LHS 6343 C transit the primary star of this system LHS 6343 A in a ~12 days orbit, and it's seen than a 3 planetary body cause TTV in the brown Dwarf C than orbit the Primary star A...

uff... this is complex system indeed! Smile

Looks like this can be explained by something in orbit around the AC barycentre.

If confirmed I guess it would be LHS 6343 (AC) b?
