HR 8799 astrometry

Post by Lazarus on 28th February 2011, 4:54 pm

VLT/NACO astrometry of the HR8799 planetary system. L'-band observations of the three outer planets

Apparently the best-fit face-on orbit of HR 8799d is too eccentric to be stable. Seems that it may not be coplanar with the outer two planets and debris disk.

Interestingy, the inclination constraints assuming a circular orbit for d seem to be consistent with the asteroseismically derived inclination axis of the star.

What is going on?
