HD 81688 as 41 Lyncis

Post by Edasich on 16th November 2009, 8:46 am

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/41_Lyncis

The K0III-IV giant HD 81688 is listed as star 41 Lyncis.

But star is not listed at SIMBAD neither elsewhere, nor as disused star designation.

Got more informations?

Thanks

Huh, that's odd. According to the Wikipedia article, the star is in Ursae Majoris. Perhaps it lost its Lyn designation because of this.

I'm stumped .
(moved to General Questions... threads like this, that are exoplanet/astronomy related that don't seem to fit into other categories tend to support the addition of a "Other" subforum")

Wise decision. Wink

And it's odd nobody has made any objection to this article at WikiPedia.

Well it isn't just Wikipedia claiming it. Run a Google search on 41 Lyn and you get lots and lots of sources claiming it. Though, they may have simply got it from Wikipedia.

Many Wikipedia articles are often unvisited for long periods of time and end up accumulating random "information" of dubious or uncertain origin. As an ex-Wikipedian, I advise you to go check out the Astronomical Objects WikiProject and ask for help there.
