Jupiter's core may be larger than once thought

Post by Lazarus on 26th November 2008, 8:06 pm

New theoretical model of Jupiter's interior predicts it has a 14-18 Earth mass core of heavy elements and ices (consistent with the core accretion model of formation). The planet's mantle is not predicted to contain much water, so the Galileo measurements may be typical of the entire planet.

I haven't read the paper yet, but how will this affect, if at all, the masses of other Jovian planets?
