Enceladus may have "fluffy" interior

Post by Lazarus on 29th October 2014, 7:15 pm

New Scientist: "Cold moon Enceladus has heart of warm fluff"

Suggests that the reason for the geyser activity on Enceladus is due to it having a "fluffy" interior with mixed rock and ice. Has potential implications for habitability as a large portion of the volume is then available where rock/water interactions could take place, but whether there's any free chemical energy around after billions of years of existence is another matter.
