Metallicity and galactocentric distance?

On this Centauri-dreams post, http://www.centauri-dreams.org/?p=9226 , it is suggested that the metallicity correlation for gas planet formation may be related to the distance a star is from the galactic centre. Older stars may have migrated inward toward the galactic centre.
